Do you love learning new stamping techniques? Today, I am welcoming a guest blogger, Jane Kline, to share her techniques in making these beautiful Sheltering Tree cards!
Jane brought these cards to my March Card Extravaganza and I fell in love with them.
Now, I am thrilled to share these with you.
Jane has provided a full written tutorial below.

Rangers Essential Blending tool and blending pads (a different foam pad for each distress pad color)
Optional – assorted ribbon, shiny bling gems, buttons, etc. in colors coordinating with the selected distress ink and card stock colors.
Directions – Background
- Cut each 8 ½ x 11 white cs into 4 A2 pieces, as many as you want, to make full cards or just front card faces to be made into future cards
- Using the blending tool and foam pads, one foam pad for each color, start with Evergreen Bough onto the first A2 cs, blending where you want, in the center or on the edges or equal areas on the card. Consider trying to do the Aurora lights, snowing at night, dusk, dawn, early spring, etc. Whatever you do here can be blended in multiple iterations of steps 2 and 3.
- Blend the second color (faded jeans) onto the cs as desired, then the third color (Chipped Sapphire) until the entire card is covered in color.
Consider darkening the edges more. Iterate through steps 2 and 3 until you get your desired result, which may be a very dark night scene to a lighter day scene.
- For each A2 size white cs, go back and do steps 2 and 3, considering different looks as you do them. When you are done, you should have at least 8 A2-sized pieces to work with, in the variety of color selections you wanted. Note – if you desire different season themes then used here, you will need different but appropriate cs colors for those seasons.
- Spray each card using Tattered Angles Dazzling Diamonds shimmer mist. Let dry naturally or dry with heat gun.
Directions – Stamping using the Sheltering Tree Stamp Set:
All parts of this stamp set example are stamped using the VersaMark Watermark stamp pad (no colored stamp pads are used with this stamp set).
I chose mostly winter scenes (since it was snowing when I started my project) and spring blossoming time, but consider summer and fall as well in your color choices. Any changes to the scenery choice may require change in care stock and bling colors.
Cut each brown cs 1/8 inch wider than white a2 card – 4 3/8 x 5 5/8
Cut each white cs – 4 ¾ x 6
Cut dark blue shimmer cs either 10 x 6 1/4 to just fit all layers, or 10 x 7 ¼ if you want to add bling to bottom of card. Score half way on wide side, fold in half.
- Stamp tree onto cs using VersaMark, add Zing chestnut eb powder, heat until set.
- Stamp leaves same way, but use either Zing white eb or light pink eb powder, heat. Fill in ears with small leaves stamp as needed.
- Use the winter scene stamp with the snowflakes to stamp the sky area several times, use white eb powder, heat
- If desired, stamp snow on ground using stamp with curved rough thick line, add white eb powder, heat
- Layer – stamped cs on top, brown cs, white cs, base shimmer cs, using your favorite adhesive. Add bling if needed.
(Note – tree leaves can be stamped first, then the tree for a different look)
Thanks, Jane, for sharing your creativity with us!
