I have always appreciated getting cards in the mail, but facing cancer and going through surgery has taken my appreciation to a whole new level.
It has felt overwhelming to feel the love and support of friends and family.
I have looked through my basket of cards several times, and as I look at each one, that person’s face comes into my mind and I am saying a prayer back for them.
And here is my confession: Even though I love to make cards and I have been teaching card making for 17 years now, I am not good at sending out personal cards!!! I am making a commitment to change that!
I put “facing cancer” in my title for this post because that is my situation, but think of all of the other situations that could be substituted. Grieving the death of a loved one or any serious illness certainly fits. But it also makes me think of the older person who is lonely and forgotten, or anyone that is going through some life struggles.
Have you ever received a card for no reason but just to be appreciated for who you are? Maybe they are sharing a special memory or something they have learned from you? Those are cards kept forever.
Today, when so much of our messaging occurs on line, there is real value in having something that you can pick up in your hands and read over and over again in that person’s handwriting. Just seeing that card on your side table can bring pleasure.
So, if you are one of those thoughtful people that combine your love of stamping with your love of sending cards, KUDOS to you! (Cathy Aust, you come to mind!) You really do make an impact on the lives of others. If you, like me, love to stamp (or dream about what you will stamp when you have time), but don’t send enough cards, I invite you to join me in making this commitment to change that. Lets become card givers as well as card makers.
So my question to you is….Who will you send a card to today?
With appreciation and love, Karen Titus
P.S. Since laughter is the best medicine, I thought I would share with you the card above that I received from Sally Anderson. In case you can’t read the words inside, this is what it says: “What some people will do just to lose a little weight!”
Really, really interesting
I’ve only watched your videos Karen so didn’t know about your illness until now. If I wasn’t in Australia I’d definitely order from you. I pray for quick and complete healing. God bless!
That is so sweet of you, Rosanne!
Thanks, Lori. I am so much more aware now of the importance of sending cards – I realize how important it is to me, even if it doesn’t matter than much to the person I send it to. Does that make sense?
