Its another Monday so its Mojo Monday time.
This is my card… (I used the Apothecary Art stamp set, the Labels Collection Framelits Dies, and the Soho Subway Designer Series Paper)……..
and this is the card sketch.
I am having so much fun designing with these Mojo Monday Card Sketches. How about joining me?I followed this one pretty closely. The only changes I made were the shape of the main accent (I used the Labels Collection Framelits Dies with the Apothecary Art stamp set) and I put my three little accents (the pearls) directly on the ribbon. If you aren’t sure how I attached that ribbon, watch this video to see this cool ribbon technique:
How do you make cards usually? Do you
1. copy a card you have seen
2. use a sketch or a real card and make your own changes
3. or design from scratch?
Just leave your answer here and thanks!

I usually copy a card I’ve seen (for real or on pinterest). I may tweek it to make it my own but I love getting layout ideas from others. I’m not so good at that part.
I rely on cards from blogs, Stampin’ Connections, or the catalog for ideas. I’ll sometimes change the color scheme or stamp set, but I’m not creative on my own. Never had an art class in school.
Sometimes I start from scratch (not often). Mostly I will take an idea and do my own thing – sometimes good, sometimes, not so good but it’s the fun in trying that I like
I usually create from scratch, however, I will use color combinations as inspiration as I view another stamper’s work.
I start with something I’ve seen and change color, stamps, etc and end up with something very different than the starting point. I like “maps” as well…make me thin I thought it up myself!
that’s “makes” me think “think” … if only maps could make me thin ?
This sounds so indecisive but I do all 3 ways almost equally and enjoy them all. Love getting ideas on Stampin’up blogs.
2. use a sketch or a real card and make your own changes. By using different papers, colors, embellishments each card usually is unique. Mine seem to be different even if I cut two or three papers at the same time. I appreciate people like you who have so much talent and are willing to share with others. Thank you!
Hi Karen,
I am still at the copy a card or copy but make a few changes. I aspire to designing from scratch some day!!
Shirley
Hi again,
Just watched the ribbon tying video. Thanks so much for sharing that.
Shirley
Lots of times I see a card and it gives me the “jump start” to create a card on my own. I try never to copy exactly, but do use techniques and ideas that you have shown
I have learned to copy very well. I don’t think I have an original bone in my body.
Some times I see a card I like and start out doing it and make changes to suit myself. And some times I just start from scratch and do my own thing
I almost always copy a card as closely as possible, right down to the color. I am not real comfortable with creating on my own. BUT that is the next step for me. I thank you for your newsletters.
I like to see what can be done, but then put my own idea into the card. That’s the fun part of making cards.
I start with what I’ve seen but make changes to use what materials I already have on hand. Such as a slightly different color ink or paper.
I get ideas from other crafters but try to make it different. Sometimes ideas just come to me! Shocks me!
I look at other cards and change it to what I like. My version does not usually look like the original.
Most of my cards I come up with my own ideas, but I do look at lots of cards to get to get me in the mood!
I sometimes use an idea I have seen,(especially measurements)and make my own changes, but quite frequently I design from scratch.
I like to look at all kinds of cards, and maybe combine 2 or 3 of them to create my own I also like the card sketches to give me great
layout ideas.
Depends on what I am doing-I often start with copying a card I have seen when I need to make a card for a specific occasion. But they often turn out different due to changing stamps, embellishments etc. However, when I am using up some scraps, I am doing designs all my own. Scraps have a way of bringing out my creative side!
I do like to copy a great card.. makes it easier and less time comsuming for me. Thank you for great ideas
I usually make my cards from scratch. I often get an idea and can’t let it go until I make the card. I sometimes use a shared sketch but most often come up with my own ideas. I love to see what other people create!
I usually copy the card as shown to keep as a pattern but then tweak the design to create my own card. I also combine ideas on cards. I also love getting new layout ideas!
