The December 2024 Paper Pumpkin Kit is a stunner! The kit is gorgeous as is, but I love using it to spark some creative ideas for alternative cards. These designs are all quick, easy, and perfect to have on hand for any occasion.
When I work with a Paper Pumpkin kit, I like to keep it simple. I only use what’s in the kit, plus some cardstock. It’s all about looking at the pieces and asking, “What else can I do with this?” That’s where the fun begins! Let me show you some of the things I’ve come up with.
First, I always lay everything out so I can see what I’m working with—this helps me get ideas flowing. I even cut apart the envelopes to use the patterned paper, like the green parts from this kit. The scripted sentiments are stunning, and Paper Pumpkin is such a great way to build up your collection of beautiful word stamps. I also love all the fun extras, like vellum pieces and scalloped cards. Let’s dive in!
One of my go-to designs is a Z-fold card. It’s such a simple way to create a wow effect! For this, I scored the card at 2 1/8″ and folded it back to show off the inside design. Then I added a strip from one of the envelopes as an accent piece.
Another fun idea I tried was using labels from the envelopes as card embellishments instead of envelope decor. Who needs fancy envelopes anyway, right? I added some layering, popped a few pieces up for dimension, and tried out different sentiments to see what fit best. You can do so much with these kits by just rethinking how to use the elements.
For the 3rd card just cut a white piece at 3-3/4″ x 5″ and the envelope at 3-3/4″ x 5″. Cut the green diagonally in half.
The Front-Flip Card is one of my go-to card layout. Start with a 4-1/4″ x 11″ piece of thick Basic White scored at 5-1/2 and fold. Cut in each side of the card front to the center fold line 1”. The strips both measures 3/4″ x 5-1/4.”
And here’s an idea to use some strips/scraps of paper. The longer strips measures 1″ x 4-1/4″ and the other two measures 1″ x 3″
Notice how just a little bit of the green base shows through? It’s a perfect way to make it look like a framed piece.
I also played around with a vintage look by roughing up the edges of one of the cards and adding ink for an antique vibe. I’ll admit, it didn’t turn out exactly as I envisioned the first time, but that’s the fun of crafting—you learn as you go! If I don’t love how something turns out, I just tweak it or try again.
Take a 3″ x 4-1/4″ Basic White piece, rough it up with scissors then use a sponge dauber for the edges.
Throughout the process, I like to remind myself that it’s all about having fun and experimenting. Some designs I love, some I don’t, but every time, I’m learning and sparking new ideas. I hope this inspires you to try something new with your kit!
