Today’s card is very personal.
I very rarely design a specific and very personal card but this past week I did. I’ll walk you through my process of designing these and hope that will give you some ideas – but I also want to hear how you design.
Our one month old granddaughter Emerson was diagnosed with cancer at 1 week old. She is in Boston Mass General. She had surgery to remove part of the tumor along her spine and has just completed her first round of chemo.
We spent time with them last week and as I was holding her I kept thinking about all of the people surrounding us with prayers. Even though I didn’t even have my catalog with me, I started thinking about what card I would make to send to those who sent contributions towards her medical needs. In this video I share my thought process and how these cards came to me. My Monday Mavens have helped me make them and Tim starts each day with writing a few thank you notes and thinking about the person that sent them. In spite of the challenges, this has been an encouraging time.
I chose the sentiment first. “So grateful for that heart of yours” from the Label Me Grateful stamp set was the perfect message for how we feel. The Storybook Moments Designer Series Paper includes two sheets of these adorable pop-out animals. The Timeless Plaid Designer Series Paper finishes the card.
Here are a closer look at some of the cards we made.
For this week’s challenge, I’m challenging you to think of one specific person who could use a word of encouragement – or a special person you want to thank very specifically for something special they did for you. Design it with them in mind. It becomes a message, a connection, a way of saying, “You matter to me.”
Post your card (and your story, if you are willing) over in the Back Porch Stampers group. Sharing our stories helps us understand the importance of what we do and also can inspire us to do more.
So I hope today inspires you to sit down and think about who in your life might need that kind of message right now… and then go make something beautiful, just for them.
