One way to get even more from your crafting supplies is by turning large dies into shaped cards! Instead of the regular A2, a shaped card instantly adds a fun surprise while still being just as easy to make. If you have oversized dies tucked away in your collection, this is a great reminder to pull them out and let them become the star of your project.
Shaped cards look impressive, but they’re much simpler than they appear. Whether you’re making a Christmas stocking, a flower, a tag, or any other large die shape, this technique works beautifully and opens up so many creative possibilities. It’s an easy way to make a card that’s memorable before it’s even opened!
This card uses the Stitched Stocking dies that has quilting-inspired patterns like holly and pine trees that add cozy, nostalgic textures.
How to Make a Shaped Card Base
Creating the shaped card base is surprisingly simple. Fold your regular 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ or 4-1/4″ x 11″ card base in half, then place the large die so that the top edge of the die extends just beyond the folded edge of the cardstock. Run it through your die-cutting machine, leaving that small section uncut. This keeps the two layers attached, giving you a folded shaped card base that’s ready to decorate however you’d like!
