Create these stunning Pop Up Shadow Box Cards in no time at all!
The surprise is on the inside! How sweet is this card with the Zoo Crew Designer Series Paper?
All you need is a punch for that card! The Decorative Circle Punch and the 2-3/8″ Circle Punch are two of my favorite punches for these cards.
Here is another Pop Up Diorama Card done the same way using the Taco Fiesta stamp set and the Bright & Beautiful Designer Series Paper. The pinata actually swings since it is attached with twine.
One more with just the circle punch along with One Horse Open Sleigh Designer Series Paper. The cabin is fussy cut from that paper.
How about stepping it up with dies? This is the view I would like to have out my window!
The Stylish Shapes Dies are used to create the window frame. The rocking chair and rug are from the Lazy Days stamp set.
How to Make a Pop Up Shadow Box Card
The finished size of the cards shown so far is 3-1/2″ x 5-1/2″. These will mail in a regular envelope.
After the directions, I will give the measurements for make a larger size – 4″ x 5-1/2″.
1.Score a 10-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ piece of cardstock @ 3-1/2″, 6-1/2″, 7″ and 10″. Fold along score lines to make a box shape.
2. Use a punch or die to make the window in the first panel of the cardstock.
3. Add Tear & Tape (or other adhesive) along the 1/2″ flap on the side of the card.
4. Fold the card flat with the 1/2″ flap lined up along the 3-1/2″ score line.
5. Fold the card front over.
6. Open the card to find this!
Use the same punch to cut a coordinating piece of cardstock to decorate and fit in the window opening or attach a 3-1/2″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Designer Series Paper under the opening.
All of the fronts of these cards were done by layering a 3″ x 5″ piece of Designer Series Paper on a 3-1/4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of coordinating cardstock before attaching to the front of the cards.
(This is how I like to save a pattern. Notice how the measurements are right on the mockup card and this will still fold flat for easy storage.)
How to Make a Larger Size Pop Up Diorama Card
This card when closed will measure 4″ x 5-1/2″.
The base card uses a 12″ x 5-1/2″ piece of cardstock scored @ 4″, 7-1/2″, 8″, and 11-1/2″.
Everything else stays the same.
For the card front, layer a 3-1/2″ x 5″ piece of Designer Series Paper on a 3-3/4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of coordinating cardstock before attaching.
This card uses the Carousel Horses stamp set, the Kindest Expressions stamp set along with the Subtles Designer Series Paper. Did you hear the story behind this card? (Its on the video below). I made it to share some happy memories with my 98 year old mom.

How to Make an Easy Pop Up Shadow Box Card
Can’t wait to try this one!
Karen, can you review the scoring dimensions for the larger version? You have “… scored @ 4?, 7-3/4?, 8?, and 11-1/2?. There’s just 1/4″ difference between the 7 3/4″ and 8″ scoring, but it creates 1/2” at the end, which then leads to a lopsided box. I made it and that happened. I sent you an email about this through your site but not sure you received it. I understand you’re busy and didn’t expect an immediate answer if you did get it. Thanks.
