Tonight, we’re diving into scrapbooking and the memories it keeps alive. Now, I’ll admit, I’m not much of a scrapbooker—I’ve tried! But what I love about it is the storytelling.
I think it would be so much fun to make a scrapbook with a 2 page spread for each year at Christmas time. Just a couple of pages for each year, capturing the highlights. Imagine sitting around, flipping through it, and laughing over memories like, “Oh yeah, that was the year Uncle Tom did that crazy thing!” or “Remember when we all got sick and couldn’t go anywhere?” It’s such a fun way to look back on life.
This particular scrapbook would not be my style anymore, but that’s what makes it special. I wouldn’t change it for anything because it captures that moment in life, kind of like a creative time capsule. I always tell people, don’t redo your old scrapbooks or quilts—just make new ones! There’s something so charming about seeing how far you’ve come and remembering where you started.
As we flipped through an old scrapbook recently, it sparked all these forgotten stories—like teddy bears made from Grandpa’s old coat or the year my kids played for hours with a dollhouse that my dad made. Those memories came flooding back, and it reminded me how important it is to preserve these little moments. Whether you scrapbook, journal, or just print out photos, capturing those stories is such a gift for yourself and your family.
I’d love to hear about your traditions, too—especially the fun or quirky ones. Traditions don’t have to stay the same; they can grow and change with your family. And hey, if you’ve got older relatives, ask them about their memories, or if you’re the storyteller in your family, write them down to pass along. These stories are what keep us connected, and they’re worth sharing every chance we get.
We invite you to come over to our Stamping on the Back Porch facebook page and read more stories – and share your own!
